ABOUT US

We are a talented group of senior mechatronics engineering students at the University of Waterloo. With a diverse set of backgrounds, we are synergistically developing a creative solution to the problem surrounding swimming pool chemical maintenance.
Andrew Neves
User Interface Designer

Andrew has been involved in user interface design for over 2 years. He selected a touchscreen, designed the interface layouts, and is responsible for implementing the user interface code. He met with a graphic designer to discuss ways to make a high quality graphical user interface and did several proof of concept tests in Java to ensure the designed components were feasible.

Biye Chen
Control System Engineer

Biye was responsible for designing the control system.  This required further research on the effects of sodium hypochlorite and CO2 on the system.  In collaboration with the rest of the members and discussions with professors of related disciplines, Biye was able to establish the general control theory, specify requirements for sensor and injector selection, and define the interaction of the controller with the user interface.  Biye also provided the setting for the chemical testing on the prototype and monitored the results.

Max Haringa
Systems Integration

Max is responsible for the carbon dioxide feeding, pH and ORP sensing and interfacing. He put a great deal of effort into ensuring fittings were appropriate so that the CO2 system would be safe, and the sensing systems would be effective. Max was also instrumental in planning the majority of team meetings to keep everyone on schedule and up to date on current progress.

Max considers himself a mad scientist. He also likes playing the drums.

Michael Van Dorp
Mechanical Systems

Mike originally suggested the problem and was responsible for researching the basic requirements. He was responsible for designing the chlorine feed system. Mike was extremely helpful when it came to general pool maintenance topics, as it is an area in which he has worked for over 5 years.

Mike also really likes snowmobiling. During his free time in the winter he can most often be found out on the trails.
